Who should get tested for COVID-19?

Any children displaying symptoms of COVID-19 should come in for testing. Screening for this disease is simple. Results are available swiftly, and you’ll learn whether your child needs to quarantine.

Getting tested for COVID-19 is not only important for your child’s health, but it’s also a public health issue. COVID continues to spread, and new variants have been discovered and are being tracked. The best way to move beyond widespread infection is through vaccination, testing, and taking steps to slow the spread.

Partnership Based On Trust

We help you in your goal to ensure that your child’s health never falls below the peak condition. So, your expectations may be high, but we always work hard to reach further. If you seek attentive and accessible care for your child, then our pediatrics clinic is the place for you!

What are the symptoms of COVID-19 in children?

COVID-19 is a disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that is easily spread from one person to the next. While most people who contract COVID are able to recover with relative ease, the disease causes severe symptoms in some and can even be life-threatening. Knowing the symptoms of COVID-19 infection can help parents understand when to bring their child in for testing and care. Some of the signs of this disease include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle aches
  • Chills
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • New loss of smell or taste
  • Fatigue

As you can see, the symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to those of the flu and common cold. As a parent, you know your child better than anyone. If they display significant symptoms and are uncomfortable, feel free to bring them in for a diagnostic work-up at Main Street Pediatrics.

Your child might also need testing to meet requirements at school, for travel, or when participating in organized activities. You’ll receive full documentation once your child’s results are in.

What happens if my child tests positive for COVID-19?

If your child tests positive for COVID-19, try to remain calm. The vast majority of kids who contract COVID can move through the illness without severe symptoms. Your practitioner will advise you on caring for your child as their immune system fights off the infection. Many of the same techniques used to soothe cold and flu symptoms are also effective in caring for a child with COVID-19.

You’ll learn how to effectively quarantine to prevent spreading the disease to others, and what to look for if symptoms worsen. As always, if any concerns or questions arise, Main Street Pediatrics is here to help.

You can reach the Main Street Pediatrics office by phone during regular business hours or use the online booking page to schedule a visit.

Main Street has been amazing! From the front desk to the back. Everyone makes you feel so welcome! Savannah is so sweet, comforting & encouraging. The approach to individualized care is top notch. Our newborn has had two visits since giving birth a week ago and we already feel like family. So glad Pell City has a great place to go to for everyone’s littles. Definitely gives mamas & daddy’s peace of mind!

Love the staff! Always friendly and the doctors actually care. However, I would like for the rooms to have nursing chairs and nursing pillows like other places for breastfeeding moms and babies.

From checking in to check out, the staff is super great. They know you by name and are so kind & friendly. Front desk ladies are hands down the best. Mariah and Savannah are great with the kids. Savannah is very thorough. My girls feel comfortable here, and they make going to the doctor something that’s tolerable rather than dreaded.
