  • Eating more or less than normal
  • Getting irritated or angry easily
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Frequent worrying or negative thoughts
  • Frequent crying
  • Becoming increasingly clingy
  • Sleep disruptions

While all kids will occasionally display these behaviors, kids who struggle with anxiety will have persistent symptoms that interfere with their regular routines.

Mental health in children refers to their emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It encompasses how children think, feel, and behave daily. Children with good mental health can cope with life’s challenges, form positive relationships, and achieve their full potential.

However, like adults, children can experience mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). These conditions can affect a child’s ability to learn, make friends, and participate in daily activities. Let us help your child thrive. Is depression a common mental health issue in children?

Many people think that depression is only an issue for adults, but kids can also experience depression. While the symptoms of depression include sadness, that is not the only way that depression manifests in children. Symptoms of depression in children include:

  • Social withdrawal
  • Anger or irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Low energy or fatigue
  • Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
  • Being more sensitive to rejection
  • Unexplained headaches or stomach issues

All kids go through periods of sadness, just like adults. However, if you notice significant changes in your child’s thoughts or behaviors, coming in for an assessment is a good idea. There are treatments to help improve your child’s symptoms.

When should my child be evaluated for ADHD?

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurological disorder often diagnosed in childhood. Kids with ADHD often struggle at school, at home, and in social settings. You might want to schedule an evaluation for ADHD if your child frequently displays these behaviors:

  • Inability to follow through with directions
  • Frequently interrupting others
  • Risky behaviors
  • Inability to sit still
  • Forgetfulness
  • Running, jumping, or climbing in inappropriate settings
  • Difficulty resisting temptation

All kids will display some of these behaviors from time to time. The difference in kids with ADHD is that the behaviors are persistent and interfere with performance at school and in social settings. Getting an evaluation for ADHD is a good way to know if you should explore treatment options. With the proper support, many kids with ADHD can thrive.

Love the staff! Always friendly and the doctors actually care. However, I would like for the rooms to have nursing chairs and nursing pillows like other places for breastfeeding moms and babies.

From checking in to check out, the staff is super great. They know you by name and are so kind & friendly. Front desk ladies are hands down the best. Mariah and Savannah are great with the kids. Savannah is very thorough. My girls feel comfortable here, and they make going to the doctor something that’s tolerable rather than dreaded.
