Why are vaccines so important?

Vaccines are important for your child’s health because they reduce the risk of contracting disease. Healthy immune function allows your child to grow and thrive. However, vaccines are also necessary from the perspective of public health. When the majority of a population is vaccinated against a disease, the specific disease cannot take hold and cause widespread damage.

Vaccines are why Americans no longer have to worry about diseases like polio and measles, which continue to be a problem in less developed areas of the world where vaccines are not readily available. Getting your child vaccinated not only protects them but also helps protect the population as a whole.

Partnership Based On Trust

We help you in your goal to ensure that your child’s health never falls below the peak condition. So, your expectations may be high, but we always work hard to reach further. If you seek attentive and accessible care for your child, then our pediatrics clinic is the place for you!

How do vaccines work?

Vaccines put your child’s immune system through a training program, creating a healthy immune response to various known diseases. To understand how vaccines work, it helps to think about how your body naturally fights off infection. When your immune system encounters a potentially dangerous substance (antigen), it swiftly creates antibodies to fight off that specific type of antigen. Those antibodies remain in your child’s body for the rest of their life.

If your child ever encounters that particular antigen in the future, those antibodies are ready to spring into action to ward off infection. This process happens naturally, but the problem is that some diseases are so powerful that they can easily overwhelm your child’s body before it can create that natural immunity.

This is where vaccines come in. Vaccines are formulated from a dead or weakened strain of a specific disease. When injected into your child’s body, vaccines prompt an immune reaction that creates those all-important antibodies. The vaccine is strong enough to create this natural immune response but not strong enough to make your child sick.

Are vaccines safe for my child?

A great deal of misinformation continues to be spread online and in print. The reality is that vaccines have been around for many generations. There is a wealth of medical research that goes into developing a vaccine and they’re put through extensive trials while in development. Vaccines are not just safe, but they’re also a critical part of a healthy childhood.

If you have any questions about vaccine safety or efficacy, please schedule a visit at Main Street Pediatrics. You’ll have time to sit down with your child’s practitioner to learn more about the role vaccines play in your child’s health and wellness. Book online or by phone today.

Main Street has been amazing! From the front desk to the back. Everyone makes you feel so welcome! Savannah is so sweet, comforting & encouraging. The approach to individualized care is top notch. Our newborn has had two visits since giving birth a week ago and we already feel like family. So glad Pell City has a great place to go to for everyone’s littles. Definitely gives mamas & daddy’s peace of mind!

Love the staff! Always friendly and the doctors actually care. However, I would like for the rooms to have nursing chairs and nursing pillows like other places for breastfeeding moms and babies.

From checking in to check out, the staff is super great. They know you by name and are so kind & friendly. Front desk ladies are hands down the best. Mariah and Savannah are great with the kids. Savannah is very thorough. My girls feel comfortable here, and they make going to the doctor something that’s tolerable rather than dreaded.
